Duct Tape and Lace

Q&A a Day: Where do you want to travel next? I’m ready to use our plane tickets for Cancun.

Took the dogs to Tijuana Estuary, got Caleb a bear tattoo, did laundry, and Caleb’s Uncle Ed arrived.

Potatoes, deer, and beer for dinner, with conversation, sourdough, and friends.

Accessorize

Q&A a Day: What’s your favorite accessory? my phone. I use it as an alarm, check list, calendar, step counter, gym diary, dictionary, camera, language learner, hike planner, recipes, and converter among the many other apps I have.

new music room

I volunteered my time this afternoon to help the teachers move their rooms around — desks, books, posters, and accessories. I had fun organizing the bookshelf and borrowed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl to read over the weekend.

I got paid in lunch — apple salad, Mediterranean veggie sandwiches, and French bread from Panera Bread along with some raspberry pastry (with white balsamic vinaigrette) and some apple fritter (that we cut and shared).

Caleb in my absence had built a new shelf and reorganized the house a bit. I cleaned when I got home and then raked the yard till Caleb got back from the gym. I looked over the kids’ workout-over-the-holidays assignment and they’re interesting.

fourth grade fitness

I brought home salad leftovers, we have salad ingredients in the fridge, and my neighbor brought over a salad she made us. We are having salad tonight, if and when I get hungry enough after my large lunch. I’m trying reishi-chocolate kombucha.

Lost

Q&A a Day: Today you lost… myself in a book. It was nice to settle down in the morning sun and turn a few pages before work.

The second graders made robots. The fourth and fifth grade learned some new exercises and some of the muscles connected to their neck.

I tried some turmeric cauliflower and lost track of the next three hours, some of that devoted to dogs and dessert.

Inspiration

Q&A a Day: Write down something that inspired you today.

clock

My alarm reminded me to awaken and my husband inspired me to get out the door 20 minutes later than his usual to take him to work while he figures out what’s wrong with our other car.

The call from the doctor yesterday to reschedule my appointment inspired me to go to their office today only to have a not very nice encounter with a doctor in a rush (not the doctor I had planned on having my follow-up with).

The appointment at 10 am with the maintenance guy to fix my air ducts inspired me to speed home, since of course my doctor appointment time was late (again), only to have him tell me that he’d be an hour later.

weight

This free time inspired me to go to the gym for an hour and lift heavy weights to help lift my mood. I had a shake for breakfast (not a very good one) so that we could leave sooner. I will have to do this tomorrow as well. Good thing I have Friday off.

With the maintenance done, laundry needing to be done, and Caleb still at work I was inspired to get sweaty by laying still (a form of meditation for me… in the sauna). I parked close, dropped my clothes in the locker, and spread out on a towel.

Some modest girls let me have my space and stood outside to wait. My dripping and red skin inspired a cold shower, and then I went by Caleb’s office at 1pm (when he said he might be off), and then home to have an inspiring hour-long nap.

illeterate

a book is a good friend

I was woken by the neighbor (Caleb had contacted her) and she waited till I walked out the door and got in the car to pick my husband up from work. He had been calling for 30 minutes. I was having super inspiring dreams about all the awesome sleep I was getting.

I brought muffin wrappers to that same neighbor and she shared that she was ready to get rid of some books and dvd’s. We boxed them up and Caleb and I carried them down the street to a guy for his grandkids.

The cold inspired me to make mushroom hot cocoa and the new book I’ve been reading for two days, Wicked, is calling for me to read it, but my dog dancing in the middle of the room reminds me that I need to walk them (especially since it’s not raining).

Typical Day

Q&A a Day: Was today typical? Why or why not? It was not.

jump rope

Caleb has already been to the gym by the time I get up. I go to the gym to ride with my new friend (I’m inspiring) and am slowly catching up with all the other people who had their reasons to miss the gym as well, most of them injuries. I have time for a steaming hot bath and a banana for breakfast before my doctor’s appointment to get my updated toe x-ray.

I arrive 15 minutes early and leave an hour after my appointment time when I’m told it will be at least another hour and a half and no other doctors are available today. This only made me miss an hour at work, but I got there in time to help set up for the kids to eat inside today due to the rain and winds outside. The littles would go back to their room for a movie while the big kids were allowed to jump rope outside.

It’s awesome to see kids improve their jumping, coordination, and ability to work with others with the longer ropes so that everyone gets a chance to swing the rope and jump it. I enjoy listening to their creative songs and one kid was able to do 35 in a row. We took the kids inside to learn a bit about the head — mandible and skull, and to do some circuit training by having the kids rotate to different exercises on the next mat.

jump card

I’m not supposed to eat during class (and I’ve gotten used to that) and I’m not supposed to be on my phone in front of the children (which makes complete sense to me), so I took it outside for my three voicemail: 1) car dealership saying that more testing would cost $200 more. Caleb will pay them the original $135 and do the testing himself, 2) the maintenance guy that is supposed to fix our air ducts is attempting to come by again and we’re having scheduling issues, 3) a supervisor called to apologize about the wait this morning and rescheduled my x-ray for tomorrow morning and let me know I have the option to switch doctors. I told her I’d be by after work.

It has been raining since. I got the paperwork and got home to a check and more emails from the book company that I sent three textbooks to. I sent them the first email reminding them that I had yet to hear anything after three weeks. I was told a check was in the mail for half the price and eight emails (escalating each time) and three days later they were able to fix their confusion and my second check is in the mail.
