Q&A a Day: What was peaceful about today?
Walking along the beach and watching the squirrels play; and having beets with dinner.

Q&A a Day: What’s the oldest thing you’re wearing today? It would have to be the mini dinosaurs shirt I got at least seven years ago, even though in less than two months I’ll have been married for ten years!! I work and play with kids and the wedding ring can be a bit of a hazard, and I don’t wear it in the gym either, so it sees less daylight these days.
Next, the grey sneakers I got in June 2014. I’m using them to recover from my broken toe and then I’m going to break in a new pair of shoes!! Then, the blue tights and pink sweater I got in June, my smartwatch I got in September, and most recently my new panties and black socks that were on sale two days ago.

Q&A a Day: Do you owe someone money? Does someone owe you? Yes and yes. I pay rent on a house, a loan on a car, gas & electric, water, trash, cell phone, internet, renters & car insurance (for three cars), and a credit card. We put Caleb’s dad on our insurance when he agreed to help pay.

good morning
I enjoy mornings when I can make a smoothie (preferably one that tastes delicious), but today would prove otherwise. I bought radishes, so I tossed some of them in, some wilted romaine, a soft kiwi, some calorie-heavy hemp seeds, yummy blueberries, a scoop of Greek yogurt, and then two tablespoons of peanut butter so I could drink it all without tasting the celery.

he sleeps while I read
At the gym, I got to listen to a girl sing (she was terrible) and guys talk: one about his 95 year old grandma dying soon and her pricey house in LA, and another about all the steroids he used to take (because why not?). This is why people wear headphones, but I’m one of the weirdos who likes good conversation (when possible) during a workout.

bamboo leftovers
Today was my first day being late to work with the kids already on mats mid-lesson about the spine and vertebrae. The later class would learn the parts of the spine too — cervical (between chin and clavicle), thoracic (like Jurassic), and lumbar (low). We are still introducing new stations for post-lunch recess, but the after school music program provided a nice interruption today; and I put the jump ropes on the wrong playground.

watering the weeds
I did some jumping jacks with the kids and then pitched for kickball and got two outs. A girl came up to me and asked if I’d seen the school’s janitor and I helped in her absence. I went to the little girl’s toilet and pumped poo from the pipes and waited for the toilet to reload (very slowly) so I could do it again. I notified the principal and then cleared the bowl finally so other students could go; they need to learn how to flush.
I got home to find my poor bamboo plant shattered on the floor and it’s now trying its luck on the side of the house. I’ve been updating my ancestry tree off and on for years and each time I accept one hint I get ten more. I’ve connected through email with extended family in New York and am trying to add people and details (especially within the last 50 years) where there are a lot of blanks.
P.S. I found $5.
Q&A a Day: On a scale of one to ten, how was your lunch today? Ten. Biscuits & gravy are on my top five list, along with anything with eggs, peanut butter, fruit, or veggies.
Caleb got the ‘Thug Kitchen, eat like you give a f*ck: The Official Cookbook’ and made the whole wheat biscuits with lentil gravy for our post workout meal. I had a handful of blueberries before we left. Caleb enjoys the serving size of the recipes — a meal with enough for us to pack a lunch.

shopping with Caleb… and not for cats
We went to the shopping plaza to look for sweatpants for Caleb and ended up finding me some new shoes for $37 (why millennials wear Nike) and buying matching shoes (because we’re nerds like that) and perusing other stores for their great sales until we realized the afternoon was over.
Caleb made smoked almond and chickpea salad sammies (sandwiches) on seed bread for dinner and I had one and a half, though it was an open sandwich because I couldn’t close the one slice. It was the satisfying crunchy peanut butter feeling, but an adult meal complete with tomato slice.

pants I didn’t get… never go full unicorn
I open my computer to write tonight and see a message on Linked In about my grandmother. She had a stroke on October 30th and I wanted to visit, but my broken toe changed my mind and mobility. I’ve been in regular shoes for ten days now, but focused on my own recovery and hadn’t asked about her in a while.
I called my dad so he could remind me that 1) grandma had a stroke and being paralyzed on her left side is a common symptom and that 2) she has recovered some, but not enough that she has been placed in a nursing home. He made me laugh and reminded me of traits that run in the family and of how lucky I am to have him as a father.

shoes I wanted… not my size
Q&A a Day: Are you a leader or a follower? Today I was a bit of both. I take the lead when I know what I’m doing, but I don’t want to blindly follow either.

sailors looking out to sea
I slept in this morning and joined the guys, Caleb already making cornmeal waffles with homemade strawberry syrup. I was still full from yesterday, so I had one to start the day.
We walked to 2 Wheels Cycling Boutique, 1.1 miles from the house, and only looked at their bikes over $5,000 and then lingered by the SD Bay National Wildlife Refuge for a bit before walking home.

salsa with a view
We drove to Salud! for lunch — fish and veggie tacos, beans and rice, chips and guacamole. We walked to Chicano Park and around the block and then drove to Balboa Park and explored a new corner — United Nations area (went inside Hungary and Ukraine) and saw the Automotive and Air & Space museums from the outside.

in the barrio
We got over 20,000 steps today and I was still full when we got home. Uncle Ed left around 5:30 to get back to his room in El Centro and we packed up for the gym — the one that closes early on Sunday, but luckily is open tomorrow.
I drop Caleb off at his gym across the street from the house and go home for a workout of my own. I enjoy a shower and a nice teeth brushing before he returns. I will catch up on my Spanish lessons and my book about the Wicked Witch of the West.
